What are B Corps and why do they matter?

Society’s most challenging problems can’t be solved by governments and nonprofits alone. Businesses must play their part too. That’s where B Corps come in: they’re companies that harness the power of business to truly make a positive impact on the world. Think Tony's Chocolonely, Chloé, Patagonia, and yep, yours truly.

These aren’t companies that just say they’re making a difference—they’re verified to do so. Because to become a B Corp, businesses have to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

It’s definitely no picnic to get there: not only do we require our board of directors to balance profit and purpose, we also have to achieve a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment—a rigorous evaluation of five impact areas, each of which we want to excel in: Environment, workers, community, customers, and governance.

This framework has been extremely valuable, as both a snapshot of how our business is doing over a three-year period and a roadmap to continue growing it responsibly. It’s shifted the way we work, and challenged us to make business decisions holistically.

How we’re delivering

Here are some concrete measures that we’ve been taking over the past few years—each linked to the five B Corp impact areas:

People first, now and always. Our ambition: Being a certified Great Place to Work.

B impactful

Turning up the dial on creativity. Our ambition: Amplifying diverse voices in our creative communities.

B responsible

Technology that can be trusted. Our ambition: Providing tools to serve the needs of the (entire) creative community.

B transparent

A business that works for everyone. Our ambition: Leading in responsible tech by being transparent and accountable in our decision-making.

We know we still have a long way to go, with plenty of challenges ahead. But we’ll always be honest about them, in the hope that sharing our journey will shed light on both our wins and the opportunities to improve.
